How to setup custom domain?

Adding a domain helps you establish your brand and build trust in your online store.  A custom domain allows you to cleanly integrate your AMP pages with your store by hosting it under a URL that is part of your website, for example, amp.mystore.comCustom domains improve both SEO and Aesthetics & Branding of your AMP pages.


Setting up your custom domain:

  1. Enter Domain configuration by clicking on it in the left sidebar of the AMP app.
  2. Select “Use custom domain”.
  3. In the Custom domainfield, enter your custom domain.
  4. Click “Save”.
  5. Required DNS values will be automatically generated for you and will be sent to you via email (on the email address linked to your Shopify store) as well.
  6. Log in to the account you have with your domain provider.
  7. Find your DNS settings. Look for your domain management area, DNS configuration, or similar.
  8. Find Add record.
  9. From a Type drop-down menu, select CNAME.
  10. Inside Host, Hostname or just Name enter the “Name” value we provided for you.
  11. Inside Points to, Destination or just to field, enter “Value” we provided for you.
  12. Save the CNAME Record (usually by clicking Save or Add record or similar).

Shopify

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings, and then click Domains.
  2. Find your domain and click on the Manage button on the right side.
  3. Inside your domain details screen click on “DNS Settings”. (should be on the top right)
  4. In the DNS Setting screen click on “Add custom record” and select the “CNAME record” option
  5. In the modal that is shown now type in the values that are provided to you:
    - Name: the subdomain you’ll want to use for your custom domain. It is the value of the “Name” we provided to you without your domain.  eg: If your website is mydomain.com and you requested amp.mydomain.com as your custom domain, you should only provide amp in the name field
    - Points to: “Value” (that we provided to you)

In the end, just save changes.

GoDaddy

For example, here is how you set up your custom domain in Go Daddy:

  1. Log in to your GoDaddy DOMAIN CONTROL
  2. Select your domain to access the DOMAIN SETTINGS page.
  3. Select MANAGE DNS under ADDITIONAL SETTINGS.
  4. Select ADD to add new record.
  5. Under Type, select CNAME.
  6. Enter the details for your new CNAME record:
    - Name: if your website is mydomain.com and you requested amp.mydomain.com as your custom domain, you should only provide amp in the name field (value of the “Name” we provided to you without your domain.)
    - VALUE: Value” (that we provided to you)
    - TTL: Leave as default
  7. Select ADD RECORD to save your new CNAME record.

Namecheap

  1. Log in to your Namecheap account.
  2. Click the Account drop-down menu and select Dashboard.
  3. Click Domain List and click the Manage button for the domain you wish to set up.
  4. Click Advanced DNS.
  5. Find the Host Records section and click Add New Record.
  6. From the Type drop-down menu, select CNAME Record.

   7. Fill in the form fields with the following info:

  • Host: the subdomain you’ll want to use for your custom domain. It is the value of the “Name” we provided to you without your domain.  eg: If your website is mydomain.com and you requested amp.mydomain.com as your custom domain, you should only provide amp in the name field
  • Value: Value” (that we provided to you)
  • TTL can be left as-is

     8.Click Save All Changes.

NOTE: Most DNS updates take effect within an hour, but could take up to 48 hours to update globally.
